RCC 2024 Prayer & Fasting
Jan 1 – 5
IMPORTANT HEALTH NOTICE
Please follow the advice and counsel of your primary healthcare provider.
A CALL TO PRAYER AND FASTING
At Richmond, we believe in corporate prayer and fasting (Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 9:14-15, Luke 18:9-14, Nehemiah 9:1-3).
We encourage you to join us for the first 5 DAYS in 2024, starting January 1st and concluding January 5th.
You may choose to fast a single meal or a whole day.
You might opt to do the Complete Fast, Selective Fast, or Partial Fast.
Be led of the LORD, and follow the instructions of your primary healthcare provider.
THE GOAL OF FASTING
The goal of fasting is to draw near to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it renews our soul, strengthens us spiritually, and sharpens our focus.
It also helps us to redirect our attention on the promises of God, and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives.
Remember, your personal fast (which usually involves others in a group or corporate effort) should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, respect personal health considerations, review the types of fasts listed below, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.
TYPES OF FAST
If you have a health condition, we strongly advise that you consult with a medical professional prior to participating in any type of fast.

We are facing an invisible virus that is causing suffering on a global scale.
At a time when we need each other, we find ourselves physically distant from friends, neighbors, co-workers and fellow church members.
But our spiritual unity in Christ cannot be undone by any virus or pandemic.
In the wake of this ongoing public health outbreak, Pray.NYC has launched a 24-hour prayer chain.

Pastors, leaders, churches, and individuals from around the globe are joining together — with one heart, one voice, and one prayer — to see the COVID-19 halted, lives healed, hardships mitigated, people come to Christ, and an outpouring of God’s Spirit.
God promises in 2 Chronicles 7:14, that when we humble ourselves, unite in prayer and seek His face, turn from our wicked ways, He will hear us, He will speak, He will forgive, and He will heal our lands.
Richmond has joined thousands of churches in one united prayer during church services. Millions of believers are also praying the same prayer at 7:14 each morning and night.
Let’s unite together across denominational, network, national, and ethnic lines. Let’s gather with one heartbeat — to unite and focus our eyes on God, seek His help and healing, and believe for an awakening in every nation.

PRAY TOGETHER SUNDAY — JUNE 14
We face an invisible virus that is causing suffering on a global scale. At a time when we need each other, we find ourselves physically distant from friends, neighbors, co-workers and fellow church members. But our spiritual unity in Christ cannot be undone by any virus or pandemic.
In response to a notice from the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), Richmond Christian Church has registered to join with other churches across the country for Pray Together Sunday on June 14, 2020 — praying for the healing of our nation and world.
We are coming together, as the Body of Christ, seeking God’s intervention in our lives and asking for strength to care for the most vulnerable, serve our neighbors in Jesus’ name and share the gospel with all who have not heard.
May the Church of Jesus Christ be a light to a hurting world and rise up for such a time as this.
We believe prayer can transform our lives and our communities for God’s glory and our good.
Richmond Christian Church has committed to participate in Pray Together Sunday on June 14 (at a time that is yet to be determined).
Richmond will use the following sample prayer points provided by NAE:

God works through prayer, but with so many different needs right now, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the need that we’re unsure of how best to pray.
This prayer guide includes seven basic ways to pray amidst the coronavirus pandemic. You could pray a different prayer each day of the week, or pray them all together everyday — whatever works best for you. Let’s speak up for those who are most vulnerable and affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Source: Lifeway
The coronavirus pandemic has thrown our world into turmoil, causing untold suffering and tragic deaths.
As we pray, some things come to mind.
Let’s pray:
May we know the Lord’s comfort and strength in our prayer: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6–7).
The points our church family will be using to focus our prayer:
• Father, thank You that “Your name is a strong tower, where the righteous can run to You and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10). • We pray for those on the front lines of this response, including health officials who are working around the clock to protect us. Give them supernatural wisdom as they seek to create a vaccine and antidotes to combat this virus. • We pray for courageous first responders in the medical field who are working for the health and safety of our communities in hospitals, clinics, and emergency rooms. • We pray for You to grant wisdom to governmental leaders throughout the world, on both national and local levels, regarding actions to be taken to protect the citizens they serve. Your Word assures us that if any person lacks wisdom, we can ask You and You will give it generously. • Lord, we lift to You our concern for people who are more likely than others to become severely ill from COVID-19—the elderly and people with chronic health conditions. Protect them from harm and be their comfort in this time of uncertainty. • We pray for the health and well-being of those who have already been affected by this virus. Lord, during Your ministry on earth, You showed Your power by healing people of all ages from physical, mental and spiritual ailments. Be present now to people who need Your healing touch due to COVID-19. You are a God who heals ALL of our diseases. • Lord, please also take away the fear, anxiety, and feelings of isolation from people receiving treatment and those under quarantine. Protect their families and friends and bring peace to all who love them. • We pray for those who have been impacted financially from this interruption. Thank you, Lord, for supplying their needs according to Your riches and glory. • We pray for a faith that will not only endure through this, but will grow, and lift up the name of Jesus—our Savior, Baptizer, Healer, and Soon-Coming King—as we remember Your greatness and know that NOTHING is too difficult for You. • We pray for a spirit of peace and that a pandemic of hope would spread globally as Your people, who are called by Your name, live out their faith in the midst of this crisis. • You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Thank You that You are the source of hope, and that You will fill us completely with joy and peace because we trust in You (Romans 15:13).
